Prag Continued

So we took a walking tour of the city. Out tour guide was the czech women. She was short chubby and wore this furrycoat which made her look even more funny. We toured some bic church, i dont remember the name, and many other sites. We went oover charles bridge ( i think thats its name) and it was extreamly picturesque. Their are tstatues everz 2o feet, it is however a very long bridge to walk over. Anyway, the next day we got on the train and went home.

A couple weeks later, Leon purchased a puppy from the local pet stre. Hes cute and all but pisses me off. He barks every two seconds and the people who live underneath us in the appartment keep yelluing at us and telling us totie its mouth shut. No one likes them though, so we dont plan or tieing the dogs mouth shut! haha His name is Jake and is a Jack Russle Terrier. Joy and jake get along suprisingley well though, given the size difference. They chase each other around the house, its quite funny watching Jake easily run back and fourth while Joy lags behing, having trouble moving on the slick floors. We think she broke her nose. One day she was running aftewr Jake, and Eva wanted to block her way and stupidly did so by opening a drawr. Joy collided init was slamed extreamly hard into it nose first. At first she just sat theier and looked disoriented but Eva insisted that was nothing. later on that day the bridge of her nose was swollen twice the normal size. Eva insisted that was due to the gentle lead, which in nonsense. Anyway, she now has healed, but her nose does look like it was broken.

GThis brings us the the fire in the Wohlmutstrasse. A fire started late at night in the cellar. No one in the whole appartment building had fire allarms apparently, which is quite strange. Carine woke up to a large cloud of smoke which had filled her whole room. She went out to the hallway to see what was up and had to slam the doom shut because even mre smoke came int heat way. She decided to run to the neighbors appartment where they waited. The fire department sucked the smoke pout with some sort of large machine and everyone was evacuated from the building. many were taken to the hospital. Carina was givensomje staroids for her lungs, one elderly lady even dies a couple weeks later due to smoke inhalation. Now the whole place smells like burnt chemicals (furniture, bikes, tiers, etc.) all from the cellar which had been burned. Maybe ill upload pictures to the blog when i get a chance (and remember).

Then came the holidays, and my birthday, and New Years. We watched some fireworkson the Kaiser Lawn by the giant ferris wheel. I even did that thing where yopu melt the lead, pour it into water, and see what shape it takes. I decided mine took the shape of a persone holding a turtle, or some smaller animal. I think that means I will be working with animals soon!!!

This brings us to the present.

Yesterday Eva and I were driving on the highway, and she didnt have her yearly highway Sticker which is manditory in Austria. She wound up being pulled over and controlled. She could either pay 120 euros up front, or if she didnt have that she could pay 400 later. She didnt have the money, so I lent it to her by paying with my debitt card (dont worry Kearn, she will pay it back). The funny thin is that Ive been trying to use my visa debit card in austria for the past several months, but no one accepted it. Ironically, these people did. They'll take any money they can get their hands on.

We also found out yesterday after being told false information for the past 6 month that a person with an american diplome does not need to do all those courses worthtwo years of my life. every unversity in austria told me i was not allowed to take courses unless i do two years of austrian classes first. Both Eva and i were pissed off and nwere about to give up hope. By chance, we were told by the insurance people to call the people incharge of education, because I was no longer insured because Im not currently going to school. After calling the head of schools and universities in austria (the man directly under the minister for education) we were informed that their was no such law. They had all just taken it from germany and assumed that it was the austrian law aswell. I do however need to take a few testgs, but not two years worth of schooling. Hopefully I can pass those tests and try to get into the vet med uni in vienna.

Anyway, thats the good news. How ever because of this false information, I missed the deadline for the EMS test required for the admission into the Med Uni Wien. This pissed me off alsot, because as it turns out, i could have taken the test without a problem.

that pretty much sums up the last months of 2010, and the first of 2011.

Hope all is well in America,
- Sassi

  1. Hi Sassi,
Well, Kearn told Mom and you about the new link for your e-giftcard, so I hope you'll do some online shopping at amazon.de soon and let us know what you bought.

It sounds like you had a very eventful few months, and we are glad to get some news on your blog. The fire must have been a bad one, but at least Carina was able to escape. It's lucky you weren't staying in that apartment when the fire broke out. Did they ever find out what caused it - like a cigarette butt or something like that?

It also seems that you are leaning toward applying to university in Vienna rather than Budapest or Brno - is that what you've decided? Since you missed the deadline for the EMS test, how long will you have to wait now before it is given again? And, once you are admitted, are you allowed to change majors if you have a change of heart about what you want to do? I ask because you seem to have many ideas about the future. I thought the pharmacy one sounded pretty good, but of course I'll like to have you for my personal doctor if you do become a vet. I'm trying to stay healthy until that time.

Anyway, it looks like this week will be our first week of no snow since December 26th! I hope some more will melt before we have another storm, because we haven't seen the grass for more than six weeks. Too bad I don't have doggie snowshoes.

Try to post some pictures of your pets and the places you've been - we'd like to see some of your photos soon. Love, Libra
